So... Holiday eh? Had a party yesterday, drinks ‘n’ all? Got up today, went for the hoisting, had a few sweets, wished a few people and played a few patriotic songs? Besides that, how many times in the past few hours did you actually think about the nation? Or, for that matter, how much do you do so in general?
What was the last thing you did for the country, or rather, NOT do? Did you NOT throw the packet of chips you just ate by the side of the road, or did you brag about how other countries are so neat and clean? Did you NOT take bribe and pushed the application of a non-deserving person forward and thereby, let an able and needy soul down, or did you discuss in your circle about how honest other countries are? Did you NOT have nasty thoughts about a girl in your office, in your neighborhood or someone you just saw on the road, or did you acknowledge the freedom women enjoy in the west. Did you NOT ditch XYZ India Ltd. and joined some foreign firm, or did you bitch about “brain drain”? Did you NOT jump a traffic signal or a queue, or did the amount of order elsewhere amaze you?
Most people have this impression that any small thing they do does not matter. In doesn’t take a genius to recognize how wrong they are. Every little thing you do contributes to improving your life, as well as that of the nation. Infrastructure, primary education, cleanliness, order and many other factors that define a country are in the hands of us, the people who ARE the country. Doesn’t the fact that in the past 7 years, we haven’t been able to recognize even a single person for our highest civilian honor bother you?
We can do much better than bitching about things, we are all capable of it, and we know it. Be a part of India’s surge ahead, and do whatever you can, even small things make a difference.
